A fence can increase the comfort and the value of your property, especially if you live in the suburbs. If you currently have no borders around your backyard, you will need to enclose the space so that you can have privacy and safety on your property. If you do not have a lot of money to put towards a fence, you can still construct a nice fence with a little bit of planning. Here are some ways to build a beautiful and cost effective wood fence in your backyard.

Take the measurements yourself

Hiring a company to perform and stage the fence can blow your budget. If you are interested in saving money, you should take the measurements yourself. Measure the length of the sides of your home and the width of the space so that you know just how much pine you will need. Once you have performed the measurements, set up cones and string along the perimeter to create a mock fence. This will give you a guide to follow when you are setting up the fence.

Go with untreated pine wood

A wood fence made of pine will be one of the least expensive materials to use. Pine is an inexpensive wood that you can purchase for many yards of fencing without it becoming cost prohibitive. To keep the costs at rock bottom, you should get untreated pine fencing. Light pine wood has a look that can easily be incorporated into a pretty picket fence. If you would rather stain the wood a darker color, perform the staining on your own. Make sure that the fencing is the right height for what you need and that you get the appropriate size brackets to connect and hold up your fence.

Purchase a pre-made fence door

The one part of the fence that you shouldn't attempt to do on your own is the fence door, since you will need a fence that opens appropriately, has the correct size hinges, and has a locking mechanism that works well. Purchase the wooden fencing materials along with a pre-made door. Be sure that the door can be situated in the space that you prefer, whether it be to one of the sides of the yard or towards the back of the yard. Installing the door first will help you to properly situate the rest of the pine wood fencing around it, without wasting space or materials.
